Lorra Kurtz is a self-taught contemporary mixed media artist who grew up in Texas and now resides in Alpharetta, GA. From her more vivid and whimsical works to her more muted and dreamy pieces, working through the process of creating with a variety of materials to gain texture and depth, engages her completely. Each painting, with its struggles and satisfactions, is a metaphor for her life. Lorra says she paints to learn more about herself. Hummingbirds are a constant source of inspiration and are painted in memory of her dad, who had a special bond with them. Her paintings reflect his spirit. She also gets visual cues from colors, shapes, florals, and landscapes. Lorra's background in interior decorating has also been an important influence in her work. She is represented at several southeastern galleries and has been selected to participate in many gallery and juried shows. She is in private collections across the country.
